New York Hardware Start-Up and Makeit NYC is joining forces with MINI - yep, the folks that make those awesome cars - for a competition that we're calling "Hardware Making Cities Better". The top entries will get to take the stage for the February meetup, and the winning team will snag an iPad Air. We're also hoping to have some journalists in the audience so this is a great chance for some media exposure!

So, we all know that the hardware space is poised for a revolution. Wearables and home automation are just the first steps of a trend where smart, connected devices will transform our world, and make our lives more healthy, secure and enjoyable. With 6 out of 10 humans living in cities by 2030, turning the urban into great spaces to live in and interact with is both a great need and a huge opportunity. And you are going to make it happen!

Sponsored by MINI, we're looking for ideas that improve life in the city. It doesn't matter whether you're an existing company, or a startup with a great new concept. And we've got a snazzy tagline - "MINImize your footprint, maximize your YEAH-ness" - for you to use as the guiding theme of your great new idea. So hit us with your hardware-related solutions to opportunities in the city - connected devices, infrastructure, service, or maybe something that defies classification. It's all good as long as your idea has the potential to make life in a place like New York more sustainable and enjoyable at the same time.

To enter: submit a short deck - less than 15 slides - describing your idea, product, startup, whatever - by Friday, February 21st, and send it to Anand Shah at anand.shah@bmw.com. We stop taking entries when the clock strikes 12, so don't be tardy - and we'll then invite 3-5 of the best as finalists to pitch their concepts at the February meetup.
