<P>The sight of a child glued to an iPad or buried in their phone is so common, its easy to forget that childhood and adolescence didnt always involve a deviceor that parenting now means figuring out the healthiest media diet for your kids.</P>
<P><A HREF="http://screentime.social" REL="nofollow">Screen Time Social</A>, a family-friendly event on Sunday, Feb. 28 at the Museum of Jewish Heritage in Battery Park, will help you determine the best use of your childs time on screens, and introduce you to the brightest toys and games of the digital age.</P>
<P>Throughout the day well have maker activities for the kids hosted by the Beam Center, BK Bots, and 3D Roundhouse, and tech toys to play with from Geek Forest. Itll be a ton more fun than a winter weekend stuck inside, and youll get hands-on time with STEM-focused pursuits that your kids may just be getting into, like Lego Mindstorms and Minecraft, so you can get a better understanding of their value.</P>
<P>In between battling bots and learning how to 3D print a toy, Brooklyn Based Kids has curated expert talks that your children are welcome to attend with you.</P>
<P><STRONG>Classroom One</STRONG><SPAN></SPAN></P>
<P CLASS="MsoNormal"><SPAN><STRONG>11:30:</STRONG> Kristelle Lavallee from the Center on Media and Child Health will deliver a short presentation for the shortest of attention spans (i.e., your toddlers!) on how screen time affects early childhood development, followed by a Q&A session.</SPAN></P>
<P CLASS="MsoNormal"><SPAN><STRONG>12:15:</STRONG> Jessica Millstone, Director of Engagement for the educational technology company, BrainPOP, will offer expert advice on finding the best educational apps for your child.</SPAN></P>
<P CLASS="MsoNormal"><SPAN><STRONG>1pm:</STRONG> The Lamp will showcase a tool they use to help teens and tweens become media literate and re-mix the messages in commercials and videos, like this<A HREF="https://www.youtube.com/user/TheLAMPlatoon" REL="nofollow"><SPAN>Ted Cruz campaign ad</SPAN></A>.</SPAN></P>
<P CLASS="MsoNormal"><STRONG>2pm</STRONG><STRONG>:</STRONG> Instructor Steve Issacs will give an overview of Minecraft and how its being used in schools, with his 13-year-old daughter Leila.</P>
<P CLASS="MsoNormal"><STRONG>Classroom Two:</STRONG></P>
<P CLASS="MsoNormal"><STRONG>Noon:</STRONG> Tali Orad, founder of Screen, will describe her new tool to help families strike a healthy balance with their electronic devices.</P>
<P CLASS="MsoNormal"><SPAN><STRONG>1pm:</STRONG> Kristelle Lavallee from the Center on Media and Child Health will again present how screen time affects early childhood development, followed by a Q&A session.<I><SPAN><A HREF="http://bit.ly/tribybb" REL="nofollow"><BR></A></SPAN></I></SPAN></P>
<P CLASS="MsoNormal"><SPAN><STRONG>2pm:</STRONG> Nancy Jo Sales, author of the forthcoming book,<I>American Girls: Social Media and the Secret Lives of Teenagers</I>, will be part of a panel with Brian Cohen of Beam Center,</SPAN><SPAN>Kristelle Lavallee from the Center on Media and Child Health, and more TBA</SPAN><SPAN>on how teens are spending their time online a discussion that adolescents are invited to attend with their parents.</SPAN></P>
<P CLASS="MsoNormal">Join in for a great day of talks and activities that will help your family find the best ways to balance being connected and staying present.</P>
<P CLASS="MsoNormal"><SPAN>Kids 18 and under are free to attend, and tickets for adults start at $10 in advance. Ticket prices will increase by $5 at the door.</SPAN></P>
<P CLASS="MsoNormal"><EM><STRONG>About the venue</STRONG>: The Museum of Jewish Heritage is located in Battery Park City, near the 4/5 train at Bowling Green and the N/R at Whitehall (<A HREF="http://www.mjhnyc.org/v_map.html" REL="nofollow">Here is a map</A>.) The caf inside the museum is currently closed at the moment, so we recommend grabbing lunch before or during the eventyoure free to enter and come back.
