<P><SPAN>Were excited to present a talk by Jason Griffey, founder of Evenly Distributed & current Fellow at the Berkman Center for Internet & Society at Harvard University.</SPAN></P>
<P><SPAN>The technology that underlies Bitcoin has the potential to do many things: decentralize communications protocols, provide more robust and tamper-proof logs of activities, allow for autonomous companies to do business, and enable peer-to-peer legal contracts without the need for governmental intermediaries. The promise of the Blockchain and similar technologies to take power away from the center and move it to the edges of the network may revolutionize lots of industries.</SPAN></P>
<P><SPAN>Join Jason Griffey at METRO on February 25 for a discussion on Measure the Future, a John S. and James L. Knight Foundation Knight News Challenge-funded project, and Blockchain, a permissionless distributed database. Hell cover what exactly this new technology is, how it works, and take a look at a few examples of how he sees it improving existing library processes.</SPAN></P>

<P><SPAN><STRONG>Jason Griffey</STRONG> is the founder and principal at </SPAN><A TARGET="_blank" HREF="http://evenlydistributed.net/" REL="nofollow"><SPAN>Evenly Distributed</SPAN></A><SPAN>, a technology consulting and creation firm for libraries, museums, education, and other non-profits. Jason is a </SPAN><A TARGET="_blank" HREF="https://cyber.law.harvard.edu/newsroom/2015_2016_community" REL="nofollow"><SPAN>Fellow at the Berkman Center for Internet & Society at Harvard University</SPAN></A><SPAN>, where he studies hyperlocal micronetworks such as his LibraryBox project.</SPAN></P>

<P>Griffey is the creator and director of <A TARGET="_blank" HREF="http://librarybox.us" REL="nofollow">The LibraryBox Project</A> (librarybox.us), an open source portable digital file distribution system. He can be stalked obsessively online, and spends his free time with his daughter Eliza, reading, obsessing over gadgets, and preparing for the inevitable zombie uprising.</P>
