Since 2012, we’ve been known as Corigin Ventures. We are proud of the fund we have become and the companies we’ve invested in. But the name Corigin no longer reflects who we are, or where we want to go.

Introducing Alpaca

As of today, we are Alpaca. Yes, Alpaca. It’s a new name that accurately represents our core values and strengths as investors.

As former founders, we understand the ups and downs of the startup journey. We know how to break down walls and put out fires, day after day.

As a tight-knit team, we take care of our own. We’re the investors we wish we had. The ones that help companies get off the ground and scale from 0 to 1.

Alpaca feels fresh and little less buttoned up. These animals are also internet sensations that reflect the tech-forward, meme-centric consumer culture we love to invest in and be a part of.

Plus, who doesn’t love Alpacas? 🦙

We’re one herd. All grit. No BS. That’s what it takes to start and scale a business. That’s what we offer early-stage founders. And that’s where we invest.

Speaking of where we invest, our focus as Alpaca remains essentially the same.

We believe that when you layer technology over daily life, it reshapes how the real world works. That’s powerful, and valuable.

Founder to founder, we kickstart real change with outsized impact in a variety of sectors:

Consumer, B2B Marketplaces, Global Commerce Infrastructure, EdTech, Wellness, Gaming, Hardware, Virtual Community, FemTech, FamTech, Supply Chain, Subscription Commerce, and FinTech.

Some History: Why Rename?

Corigin Ventures was born out of Corigin, a private real estate holding company. As VCs, we were naturally positioned to invest early in PropTech.

Our first PropTech investment was Compass. Other early bets included Paintzen, Loftsmart, Bowery, Morty and Latch, a digital lock system we installed across 16 of our buildings.

As the companies we invested in succeeded, the startup ecosystem began tying us to, and pigeonholing us in, real estate and PropTech, despite our success in investing in other categories such as Consumer, B2b, FinTech, and more.

So we looked hard at how the startup and VC communities viewed our firm and the Corigin name, and it became clear that it was just not us.

A new name — one that speaks to the journey we’ve been on, and go on with our portfolio companies — would be an important asset in helping us continue to cover new ground as VCs.

Of course, we also wanted a name that was modern, real-world and memorable. A name we could shape into a brand for founders, by founders. A really good name.

That name is Alpaca.
